(More customer reviews)Bamboo is definitely not to be used around knives.After just one use, the top of the slotted board was scarred.As time went on, it became more and more scarred.
After about one month of daily use (to cut 3 slices of very crusty whole grain Red Hen bread each morning), the slotted insert snapped in two horizontally.
I emailed the Amazon supplier - Chefs Corner Store.A friendly person called me and sounded confident that, if I was to contact Swissmar directly, there would be no problem."They are very easy to work with," she said.
I immediately called; I got the switchboard at Swissmar and they transferred me to a person to whom I explained my problem.She said someone would call me "right back."
I waited all day and in the meantime, found another breadboard with a slotted top, this time made of WOOD, and ordered that.
Two days later, a brusque person at Swissmar called me back and the first thing she said was that I would have to mail the defective board back.No apologies, no excuses, no sympathy.
My reaction: thanks, but no thanks and goodbye. I hung up and dropped the Swissmar Bamboo Crumb Catch Board into the trash where it really belonged.
In my opinion, using a knife on bamboo is very inappropriate, and using bamboo to make something as delicate as a slotted insert, is just asking for trouble.I think that Swissmar should withdraw this from production and, at the least, Amazon should decline to sell it.
For the record, I have bought hundreds of items through Amazon and have never had to post any kind of negative review before (except for a very bad book).
